An abbreviated snapshot of my Artist Trading Card Unit
Unit Overview
Artist Trading cards are ways to express, show, and spread creativity and individual expression while engaging in a globalized society. Throughout this unit, students explore different themes that relate to themselves as cultural and creative individuals while also participating in a global world by sending their artwork to other students overseas. This communication spreads understanding while also sharing a small part of your world with others.

Conclusion:
- Explore a variety of themes that relate to themselves as individuals and artists as well as cultural youth.
- Research and discuss different Artist Trading Card galleries, and analyze and critique different themes, mediums, and qualities.
- Discuss and Identify different purposes of Artist Trading Cards and why people make them for trade, not for sale.
- Choose a theme, either cultural, personal, or creative, for their own set of Artist Trading Cards to be sent and shared across the globe.
Process: Students will...
- Create ten different sketches exploring different ideas for their theme and experiment with the best medium/media for the idea.
- Create up to ten Artist Trading Cards on 3 1/2 X 2 1/2 card stock.
- Include with your Artist Trading Cards a letter within a drawing, letting other students know about who you are as a student and what your ATC's are about.
Conclusion:
- ATC's will be sent to another classroom across the globe, using the Art Education 2.0 Group: ATC SWAPs.
- After initializing cultural exchange and communication with another classroom, it is intended to create "Sketchbook Pals" where a continued communication and creative exchange will be established.
